The doyen of Badakhshi Taleban, Din Muhammad Hanif, is from Yaftal, along with several younger commanders and officials, including the late Deputy Governor Nesar Ahmad Ahmadi. At least, this was the case at the beginning of the new IEA era before a series of incidents brought their number down.

Qari Din Muhammad Hanif who spoke in the name of the Taleban Emirate at an academic conference in Kyoto, Japan in July 2012 is said to be one of the few non-Pashtuns in the Taleban leadership then and now. The most senior IEA leader from Badakhshan is Qari Din Muhammad Hanif, seventy-year-old religious scholar who was Minister of Higher Education during the first Emirate and currently serves as Minister of Economy.

The Taliban have sought to make their negotiating team more palatable to the West by including Qari Din Mohammed, because he is an ethnic Tajik from Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province.(20130318)

The top leadership of Afghan Taliban has given an approval to begin a brand new round of peace negotiations with the Afghanistan government. A delegation headed by Taliban representative in Qatar Qari Din Mohammad is likely to visit Pakistan soon.
