History and Biodata:

Sami Sadat's AUF announced the beginning of its armed campaign, Operation Muharib, on 1 August 2026. The organization describes itself as having political, civil and military components. Abdul Basir Achakzai is a veteran former Afghan National Police field commander from southern Afghanistan who fought the Taliban for many years under the former Republic. In September 2026 he has re-emerged as an operational commander of Sami Sadat's Afghanistan United Front (AUF).

His documented posts included:

  • police chief/commander in Nad Ali, Helmand;
  • commander in Gereshk/Nahri Saraj, Helmand;
  • commander in Dand, Kandahar;
  • police chief in Zhari, Kandahar.

This was frontline work rather than a Kabul headquarters career. In 2021 TOLOnews reported that he was wounded in an explosion while serving as Zhari district police chief.

He therefore knows precisely the geographical belt that is particularly interesting for the AUF today:

Kandahar → Zhari/Dand → Helmand → Gereshk/Nahri Saraj → Lashkar Gah.

His family history explains his unusually strong anti-Taliban position.

The strongest evidence currently places Achakzai's post-2021 base in Pakistani Balochistan.
