Secretary-General's Deputy Special Representative (Development) for Afghanistan:

Background:
The fact that UNAMA continues its work in Afghanistan, despite the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice announcing in September 2024 that it would cease all cooperation with the UN mission in Afghanistan as a result of “their repeated propaganda against the implementation of Sharia law,” and that the IEA has not given any indications that it intends to cease its engagement with the UN, provides at least a theoretical basis for further talks.
On 17 March 2024, the Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2727, extending UNAMA's mandate until 17 March 2025.
