Background:
Kang District has a population of about 13,514 as of 2004, which is 60% ethnic Pashtun, 25% Baloch, and 15% Tajik.
Kang district is suffering badly from drought; there are no major agricultural activities in the district.
There is a major traditional canal called Ibrahimabad which needs repair and construction.
Local residents of the Keng district said that the one-hour armed clashes erupted after Afghan people tried to dig a local channel called Sikhsar. People say that Iranian border guards opened fire in a bid to stop people digging the channel. The Iranian and Afghan forces have for a long time been at loggerhead over the channel.(20220307)
