Khanshin District Helmand Province

Khanshin Kanashin Khanshin District (Reg District) Kaneshin Khan Sheen Chief:
Masoud Khan, was traveling to the district headquarters when a bomb struck his vehicle. He and two of his bodyguards were also killed and another two were injured in the bombing that took place just after 12:00 pm (0700 GMT 20111214). Masood was appointed the district's administrative head three years ago (2009) when Khanashin was cleared of Taliban militants as a result of a massive military operation.

Background:
In 2006 there were only 5 of 14 districts with a District Chief (Governor). Kanashin District was not under Government control until 20090120.  Kanashin District has a large Baluch population.
Four mines each of uranium, magnetite, apatite and carbonate exist in Khanashin. They are illegally excarvated.
