khalili_masoudMasood Khalili was born 05 Nov 1950 in Jabal Saraj, Parwan Province. He is the son of the a famous Afghan poet laureate Ustad Khalilullah Khalili. Khalili grew up in Kabul. Khalili is a Pashtun Safi and hails from the Safi Farsiwans of Kohistan and Qarabagh.

He got his BA in Delhi College and MA from Kirori Mal College in the 70-tieth. After spending 15 years in India -- ten as ambassador and five as a student in the early 1970s -- Afghan Ambassador Masood Khalili has moved on to his posting to Turkey. Khalili was seriously injured in the attack that claimed Ahmad Shah Masood's life and had to spend months undergoing multiple reconstructive surgeries to recover from the attack. He has identified India for help in Afghanistan's education. Masood Khalili was hurt during the assessination of Ahmed Shah Massood on September, 9th, 2001. He woke up in Germany, where doctors worked on him for more than a week. He lost most of the vision in his right eye. His kidney was threatened by shrapnel.
