Jami_RahimaMrs. Al-Haj Rahima Jami was born 1961 in Herat Province. Jami graduated from Meri High School in Herat, and later from the Herat Teacher Training Institute. She is currently (2012)· a fourth-year student at the Law Faculty of Kabul University.

She was a member of the committee on international affairs in Wolesi Jirga (2005). She is an independent MNA. Prior to the Taliban regime she was the director of a school for girls with 3900 students. During the reign of the Taliban she fled to Iran. As a refugee she was forced to wear a burkha and was prevented from going to the market except to buy bread for her children. Prior to becoming an MP she was again director of her reconstructed secondary Miri High school in Herat, which now provides education to 18,000 girls.

Mrs. Jami represents the more acceptable feminist in this country. Jami believes women need to work within the Islamic framework by covering themselves, and by obeying Koranic laws. Her constituents understand that NATO forces are present as security while they rebuild and they welcome our presence in their country. Mrs Jami has been actively campaigning for Karzai during· presidential election 2009 - and Afghan Millat is part of what could be called a pro-Karzai alliance. She reportedly accepted to run with Afghan Millat mainly because of economic incentives and promise of support in the campaign. In the spring of 2008, she says that she received a telephone threat: “You are working for foreign people and ambassadors and if you do not stop working for them we will kidnap or kill you.”

She was 20101121 delisted from Wolesi Jirga Election 2010 due to fraud. However she will replace sitting Wolesi Jirga MNA MP Yasamin Barakzai after a Independent Election Commission Decision 20110821.
