District Chief:
Abdul Rahim Haidari (20170726) killed in a roadside mine blast i in Shib Koh district of the province, when Abdul Rahim Haidari was on the way home from office.

Background:

Shib Koh District Farah Province is a district in Farah Province. Its population, which is 70% Pashtun and 15% Tajik, along with other ethnic groups, was estimated at 328,000 in January 2005. Shebkoh is a route for narcotics being smuggled from Helmand, the main source of poppy cultivation in Afghanistan, to Farah and Iran. The district fell to the Taliban on 16 October 2017. The Afghan security forces retook control of Farah’s Shib Koh district after the group overrun the district. (20171017)
The Taliban took control of the district of Shib Koh after Afghan security forces stationed there fled. The Taliban, in a statement released on Voice of Jihad, also said it seized control of the “Shib Koh district administration center, police head quarter [sic] and all other installations.”Shib Koh is one of four among Farah’s 11 districts controlled by the Taliban. Six more are contested, while only one is government controlled.(20181213)
