Condemning the release of Taliban detainees, the Transitional Justice Coordination Group (TJCG) accused the National Unity Government (NUG) of following the same policies which the previous government followed regarding prisoners' release. The TJCG members also criticized the recent policy of the United States towards the Taliban's leader and other members in Afghanistan. The United States has said that after January 2, 2015, its forces in Afghanistan will not target Taliban's leader Mullah Omar and other members unless they posed a direct threat to the US. "If this policy of U.S. continues towards Taliban and those who have committed crimes, the civilian killings will likely increase in Afghanistan," TJCG member Muhammad Younus Akhtar warned.)20141225)

Transitional Justice Coordination Group (TJCG:

The Transitional Justice Coordination Group (TJCG) is an ever-growing coalition of 26 organizations active in the field of transitional justice in Afghanistan. The TJCG was formed in February 2009 with the aim of strengthening advocacy and strategic coordination between organizations involved in transitional justice in Afghanistan. Since its inception, the group has been active and outspoken on transitional justice issues, and has dedicated itself to raising the voices of Afghanistan’s victims of war and oppression.

(20110328) Representatives of civilian war victims associations from all over Afghanistan gathered in Kabul March 30-31, 2011 to share their experiences and strengthen the national war victims’ movement at a moment when civilian deaths are increasing and justice is at risk of being sacrificed for political expediency.

The two-day conference was organized by the Transitional Justice Coordination Group (TJCG), a leading civil society coalition that advocates for the rights of victims of war and oppression. In May 2010 the TJCG held a ‘Victims Jirga,’ Afghanistan’s first ever national gathering of civilian war victims and their advocates after more than three decades of armed conflict.

The March 2011 conference wanted to build on the achievements of the Victims Jirga by strengthening cooperation between victims’ groups in different regions and building trust among victims from different eras of conflict and segments of Afghan society.

Activists  updated on pressing human rights issues and political developments affecting transitional justice, including the implementation of the government’s reconciliation and reintegration plan.

Parliamentarians, members of provincial councils and international experts were also in attendance.

The conference was supported by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), the Estonian Embassy, the United States Institute for Peace (USIP), Open Society Afghanistan (OSI), and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).
