3. Biodata:
Abdul Salam Rahimi Abdul Salam Rahimy hails from Farah Province. He earned his BA in social sciences and has diplomas in organizational development and a diploma in Management. He was the Director for a decade of one of Afghanistan’s oldest non-profit organization Coordination of Humanitarian Assistanc CHA in 1991. Under his leadership the organization became and remained since then Afghanistan’s largest NGO, working in provision of services in Health, Education and Agriculture/livelihood sector in ten provinces of Afghanistan. He also engaged in life saving and emergency assistance projects when needed by the partner communities.

In 2002 Rahimi was appointed as a member of Commission for the Convening of Emergency Loya Jirga. The Commission was responsible for organizing elections for the grand assembly members. He was then appointed as a member of Human Rights Commission and served as the spokesperson of the Human Rights Commission. After serving eight months at the Human Rights Commission, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Finance where he served for three years as both deputy minster of finance for policy and in times acting minister of finance.

Rahimi is the founder of Sabah Media Organization SMO (2005). SMO is Afghanistan’s first not for profit media organization with two TV networks and a Radio network with national overage SMO is dedicated to promotion of civil society and democracy in Afghanistan. He also pioneered and oversights two other major social advocacy networks (Education Watch and Social watch) both dedicated to promote social standards of Afghans and enhance accountability of government institutions responsible for these sectors.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani appointed his close aide, Abdul Salam Rahimi, as special envoy for peace. Abdul Salam Rahimi will participate in cabinet meetings, National Security Council meetings, meetings of the high commissions and high councils. (20190629)

 

In a meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Al-Hanafi, Acting Minister of promoting virtue and preventing of Evil, and Hafiz Anas Haqqani welcomed Abdul Salam Rahimi to the country and assured him of a dignified life in the country. Abdul Salam Rahimi said, “I am happy to be back in my country and the positive change that has come with the new government is commendable.” Abdul Salaam Rahimi said that his return to Afghanistan was not a choice but an obligation as he no longer wanted to live abroad and that he is willing to stay in Afghanistan, no matter under which circumstances.(20220212)

Salam Rahimi, Chief of Staff for the former Afghan President, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani returned to Kabul few months ago and was warmly welcomed by the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi. A source close the the Taliban in the condition of anynomity said that Salam Rahimi had to flee again through Iran’s route after spending nearly two weeks in prison.(20221004)
