Background: Unidentified gunmen shot dead Dr. Nasiruddin Haqqani, senior leader of the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani Network, near Islamabad November 2013. Also in November 2013 Maulvi Ahmed Jan, a deputy to the Haqqani Network's chief Sirajuddin Haqqani, was killed when a U.S. drone fired missiles on a religious school in Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan. Unknown gunmen shot dead a senior Afghan Taliban leader Noorullah Hotak in Pashtunabad, Quetta city of Pakistan in December 27th, 2013. Hotak hailed from Zabul Province, Afghanistan, where he was burried. Afghan officials claim that Hotak was a member of the Quetta Shura which is composed of top leadership of the Afghan Taliban and directing insurgency since the Taliban regime was toppled in late 2001, however, the Taliban leader said he was not its member but was an important man. Earlier senior former Taliban leader Mulla Ismail was killed by unidentified gunmen in Quetta.
