Abdul Raqib Takahari Alhaj Mawlawi Abdul Raqib an ethnic Uzbek was born between 1968 and 1973 in Kalafgan district,Takhar Province, Afghanistan. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mawlavi Abdul Raqib was one of the formerTaliban leaders who had raised his voice for peace talks with the Afghan government. He hailed from northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan. He was running a religious seminary, Madrassa-e Sultania, in Peshawar. A police official said that Raqeeb was shot dead when he was coming out of a seminary in Tehkal, Peshawar. In the first information report (FIR), the name of the deceased is mentioned as Abdullah, son of Abdul Bari from Takhar province of Afghanistan. However, his real name is Abdul Raqeeb who was minister for refugees and repatriation from 1998 until November 2001 last. No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the assassination. No group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.(20140217)

Taliban killed many former Taliban leaders who were suspected to negotiate peace with the Karzai Government, who up to now did not succeed to make contact with relevant negotiators from the militant Taliban. (20140217)

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Dr. Nasiruddin Haqqani, senior leader of the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani Network, near Islamabad November 2013.

Also in November 2013 Maulvi Ahmed Jan, a deputy to the Haqqani Network's chief Sirajuddin Haqqani, was killed when a U.S. drone fired missiles on a religious school in Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan.

Unknown gunmen shot dead a senior Afghan Taliban leader Noorullah Hotak in Pashtunabad, Quetta city of Pakistan in December 27th, 2013. Hotak hailed from Zabul Province, Afghanistan, where he was burried. Afghan officials claim that Hotak was a member of the Quetta Shura which is composed of top leadership of the Afghan Taliban and directing insurgency since the Taliban regime was toppled in late 2001, however, the Taliban leader said he was not its member but was an important man. Earlier senior former Taliban leader Mulla Ismail was killed by unidentified gunmen in Quetta.
