3. Biodata:
Dastagir GhulamDr. Ghulam Dastgeer Azad son of Khudada was born in 1950 in Kang district of Nimroz province. He graduated from Kang High School in Nimroz province in 1970, and joined Medical Faculty. Azad completed his master’s degree in 1977.

Azad started working as a Medical doctor in Indira Gandhi Hospital and head of Charburgak District’s Health Center in Nimroz province in 1979 and migrated to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1980. He became a member of Union of Medical Doctors in Peshawar of Pakistan in 1983.
 

As well as in 1984, Dr. Azad worked as head of a health center with Swedish Committee providing services for Mujahidin and immigrants of Nimroz province. In 1986, he joined MCI organization as head of a health center operating for Mujahidin and immigrants of Nimroz province.
 

After the takeover of Mujahidin, Azad served as Director of Public Health Department of Nimroz province in 1992. After the Bonn Agreement in 2001, he was appointed as Deputy Governor of Nimroz province and later in 2006, he became the Governor of the province.
 

In 2008, Azad survived a suicide attack that killed four of his bodyguards.

In May 2010, 8 Suicide attackers entered Azad's office with intention to kill him. He survived the attack, but two of his bodyguards died and Gul Makai Osmani, a female member of the Nimroz legislature, and a bystander were killed in this attack. Unconfirmed reports state that following this attack, the Governor was transported using unknown cars and with civilian-dressed bodyguards.

 

Dr. Azad has been working as the IEC commissioner since December, 2011.
