More Background:
Safi Airways Co. is an Afghan owned airline and was founded in 2006 by Ghulam Hazrat Safi (Chairman) and Hamid Safi (Chief Executive Officer); Afghan businessman. This private airline has its headquarters in Shahr-e-Naw, Kabul, an administrative office in the Dubai Airport Free Zone, and a downtown ticketing office in Deira, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

As the first private airline in the history of Afghan aviation, Safi Airways has been re-organized to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rules for a scheduled airline. In an audit by ICAO inspectors on all Afghan airlines, Safi Airways has been certified as the first Afghan airline to be ICAO compliant. In February 2012 Safi Airways became the first Afghan airline to pass the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). On 15 June 2009, Safi Airways commenced operations between the Afghan capital Kabul and Frankfurt in Germany. This service was suspended on 24 November 2010 due to an EU ban imposed on all Afghan carriers flying into Europe. Safi Airways is trying to obtain an exemption from this ban now it has passed IOSA.
