Azimi_RidaMrs. Rida Azimi Ryda Reda, daughter of Islamuddin, was born in 1969 in Parwan province. She received her bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Journalism of Kabul University, and continued her education at the International Research Institute in Denmark where she studied principles of international courts and judicial trials. Azimi has worked in the following areas: director of Woman's Monthly, coordinator of Afghanistan-Pakistan relationships for Amna organization, media officer for the International Development in Canada Embassy, program officer of an international human rights organization, TV and radio newscaster, general secretary of Universities and Higher Education Institutes of Afghanistan, and deputy of human rights and social justice foundations.

Azimi's transformed from a secret beauty parlor operator to newsreader after the Taliban fled Kabul. Pioneer female broadcaster Rida Azimi broadcasted November 28, 2001 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Azimi was the main female broadcaster for both State owned television and radio. She was the first woman to go on air after the fall of the Taliban. She received a certificate of appreciation from former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, a gold medal from the Italian Minister for Women's Affairs, a bronze medal for bravery from the Italian president by the president of Italy and a championship cup for journalism from the Italian Minister for Information and Culture. Azimi is skilled in management, administration and computers, including the Internet.

Azimi speaks Dari, Pashto and English. She has translated several publications from English to Dari, including “Women's Rights in Islamic Countries,” “Family Violence Against Women” and “Beating is a Crime.” She has also written a number of articles herself. Azimi has traveled to Italy, Turkey, U.A.E., Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Pakistan, UK, India and the U.S. She was appointed to the Meshrano Jirga President in 2005. Ryda Azimi was one of the 34 appointed 2005 (by Karzai) members of the Meshrano Jirga, she was not elected.

She is single and is not affiliated to any political party. 20100323 Rida Azimi has been elected as international councilor of the New York-based Inter-Parliamentary Association (IPA) that has 117 member states.

President Karzai appointed Mohamad Hussain Gurziwani, Momina Yari, Sayed Mohammad Hashem Folad, Dr Ghulam Dastagir Azad and Reeda Azimi as the new members of the Independent Election Commission (IEC)(20111227).

Rida Azemi, a journalist by profession, was appointed a senator by Karzai for the period from 2005 to 2010. After completing her term, he appointed her an IEC commissioner, a position she enjoyed until late July 2013 when, as per the law, new commissioners were appointed to the IEC.

The new Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) members on 20130919 elected Abdul Sattar Sadat as head of the watchdog’s administrative board, Mrs. Reda Azimi his deputy and Nadir Mohseni as secretary.
