haqqani_nasiruddinNasiruddin Haqqani aka Naseer Haqqani, Dr. Naseer Haqqani, Nassir Haqqani, Nashir Haqqani, Naseruddin, Dr. Alim Ghair, was born 1972 in Neka District, Paktika Province. He is currently living in Pakistan. He is an active member of the Haqqani Network, which operates in southern and eastern Afghanistan from bases in Pakistan. Nasiruddin is also the younger half-brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani, a top insurgent commander who is responsible for several bombings in Kabul, including a bloody strike on the Indian embassy 2010

Nasruddin is an important fund riser for the Haqqani Network. He travelles quite frequently to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. His sources we donations from the Gulf region, Drug Trade and payments from Al Qaida. (2007 and 2008) By the end of 2009 he received a few 100.000 US $ from people close to Al Qaida. Afghan Taliban sources say Nasiruddin was a frequent visitor to the Gulf, traveling on various Pakistani passports, as he caged large cash donations to fund the jihad against the U.S. military in Afghanistan.

Bowing to U.S. pressure on Islamabad, Pakistani agents arrested Nasiruddin Haqqani, a high-profile jihadist fundraiser (20101220). Nasiruddin Haqqani, whose jihadist codename is also Dr. Khan, was reportedly traveling by car with four fellow militants from the city of Peshawar to North Waziristan when he was picked up by Pakistani agents. One of the men traveling with him was a senior Haqqani commander named Mullah Muhammad Jan. The Taliban sources say that Nasiruddin and his four traveling companions were arrested just as they were returning from the annual hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, a trip that had also included substantial fundraising activities. Nasiruddin’s arrest had not severely hamper fundraising for the insurgent network. Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Service Intelligence or ISI, is believed to be close to the Haqqani network and to other Taliban groups as well. The arrest, observers say, may be an attempt by Pakistan to gain more credibility with the U.S., even if the government isn’t about to launch a full-scale offensive into North Waziristan.

Pakistani officials have remained silent about Nasiruddin’s arrest, although a senior Pakistani government official did confirm Nasiruddin’s capture. He also confirmed that the U.S. had not been informed of the arrest. The official said the insurgent leader had been picked up to serve as a “hostage” in Pakistan’s effort to try to exert more control over the jihadist group. Nasiruddin and the other prisoners have been moved to a ISI-run safe house where they will be held and interrogated. Pakistani sources added that it is unlikely that U.S. intelligence will get access to Nasiruddin, largely because he could reveal just how closely the Haqqanis are linked to the ISI and other Pakistan intelligence agencies.

The Afghan Taliban have reportedly disclosed to Pakistani officials a “functional blueprint” for formal talks with the U.S. in Qatar, a Taliban leader said on 20120124, to make sure Pakistan was comfortable with all of the agenda items. The Taliban also recently updated the Haqqani network as Dr Nasiruddin Haqqani, the elder brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani, met with the top Taliban negotiator, Tayyeb Agha, in Dubai.(20120125)

Nasiruddin Haqqani, the chief financier of the Taliban-linked Haqqani network militant group has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Nasiruddin Haqqani -- the son of Jalaludin Haqqani, the founder of the Haqqani network -- was killed on November 10, 2013 while traveling in a car. Jalaluddin Haqqani is the father of Siraj, Nasiruddin, and Badruddin.(20131110)
