Dr. Inayatullah Mayel (20111228)

Background:
The National Skills Development Program (NSDP) is one of six National Priority Programs announced by President Karzai in Berlin in April 2004.

The overall goal of the NSDP is to contribute to the socio-economic recovery of Afghanistan through the provision of a national skills development and vocational education and training system that is responsive to labour market needs and that provides Afghans with the knowledge and skills for decent work.

It is envisaged that the national system will ultimately be managed by TVET Board, which will have components such as, a cross-sector curriculum development and registration & accreditation unit.

Key objectives of the NSDP are:

1.    To increase the capacity of the national TVET system to manage and deliver market-oriented vocational skills training.
2.    To establish a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Board that will have overall responsibility for policy and planning for vocational education and training, and the standards of delivery and certification of that training throughout the country.
3.    Registration and accreditation of training providers a cross the country.
