3. Biodata Brig Gen Fazl Ahmad Sherzad :
Fazl Ahmad Sherzad Fazal Ahmad Shirzad is a Pashtun from Nurzai tribe and hails from Farah Province. He lasted just over four months as a Provincial Police Chief in Uruzgan. In many ways it is a pity, as people did feel the wind of change entering Uruzgan after Sherzad’s appointment: the police was being paid, received proper uniforms, and overall were run more professionally.

There were rumours of local warlord and strongman Mattiullah intentionally allowing the security situation to deteriorate in order to prove the point that only he could provide security, certainly not an outsider to the province. There were tensions between him and the outgoing police chief Sherzad over the provision of security on the Kandahar-Tirin Kot road, his main source of income. Fazl Ahmad Sherzad allegedly told him that it was the government’s job to secure that road and that he had no right to charge people for it. He also wanted Mattiullah to take back his men that were still on the government payroll. None of this, of course, sat well with Mattiullah.
 

He had been transferred to become Provincial Police Commander Zabol Province 20110809 serving only four month on his previous posting as Provincial Police Commander of Uruzgan Province.
 

Brig. Gen. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad told in Qalat, the provincial capital of Zabul Province, that sympathisers even in the Provincial Administration tried to convince the government into accepting rebel demands.(20120531)
