Shafi Rahimi (20110409) is a temporary member of a seven persons group of the Afghan media house, Shafi Rahimi said that this center was built by the Balkh reporter’s initiative with the aim of coordination among the reporters, addressing their problems and supporting their media works.

Background:
Afghanistan media house consisting of seven committees including cultural, social, political, monitoring and external, financial and administrative affairs and their heads selected for six months. Rahimi said that the media house doesn’t belong to any individual or media outlet but is a movement by the reporters and will be expanded in Northern provinces.

Balkh Media House has links with the Berlin-based Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), a private German political non-profit organisation committed to social democracy. Balkh Media House cooperates with  the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), DED (Germany), the German Foreign Office,  the German provincial reconstruction team (PRT), foreign media and local journalists. Balkh Media House is planning to arrange a meetings between local reporters and government and foreign officials to improve the working relation.

Balkh Media House is financed by foreign funds and  was inaugurated on 4th of August 2010 by conducting a 5-day training workshop on “Election Reporting” participated by journalists from Northern provinces.

There are similar Media Houses in Kabul, Khost, Kunduz, Nangahar and in Peshwar (Pakistan).
