Lailuma Popal was born 1980 and hails from Kabul City. There she began to study at Kabul University. During the Mujaheddin infightings she and her family fled from Afghanistan to Pakistan. When her uncle Ghulam Haider Hamidi after the fall of the Taliban in 2001 became Mayor of Kandahar he asked her to return to Kandahar to be in charge of Zarghona Ana Girls Highschool in Kandahar.

She is the Headmistress of Zarghona Ana Girls High School, the biggest Girls High School in Kandahar City. The school was named after Ahmad Shah Durrani's mother the founder of the Durrani Empire (1747). The school has 1.700 students an 70 teachers who a teaching in three shifts.
