3. Biodata Gen Mehrabuddin Safi:
safi_mehrabuddinSon of Zafar Khan, Kapisa Governor Mehrabuddin Safi was born in 1961in Lech village of Alasai district. He completed his education from Kabul’s Harbi School in 1975 and then left for India for higher education the same year. He earned his degree in law and later received his master degree in defence and strategic studies.  
 
General Mehrabuddin had served as defense attaché in Pakistan during Burhanuddin Rabani’s presidency. He was then appointed as Afghanistan ambassador to Pakistan in 1995.  He was appointed as Kapisa governor in 2011 and still discharges his duties on the same position.

He has his political affiliation with the Jamiat Islami Party. Gen. Mehrabuddin Safi Mehrabuddin Sapi is a former jihad commander.

 

Safi said, [Government] opposition groups and terrorists in the southern parts, especially in the Tagab and Alasai districts, have gathered from every part of the world and are creating problems for the residents. Haqqani Network and Hizb-e Islami causing the instability. Safi said he feels that the Afghan security forces in the province are not properly equipped to address the threats.(20130210)

Mehrabuddin Safi said he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by a bomber who set off explosives when police approached his vehicle. The blast killed a woman and child.(20130510)

Safi is in opposition to Präsident Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai. “Any appointment or dismissal by [Ghani] is illegal,” said Mehrabuddin Safi, the former governor of Kapisa province. According to the Afghan Constitution, the service term of Ghani’s government ended on May 22, 2019 however, the Supreme Court extended his tenure until the re-election of a new president.(20190601)
