3. Biodata:
Khalilullah Sediq Khalil Sediq is a US citizen born 1949 in Logar Province. He has completed his primary school in Chahar Asyab district, Kabul and secondary education in Habibia High school. After completion of high school, he joined Economics faculty of Kabul University and obtained his bachelor degree in macroeconomic in 1970. Following his graduation from university, he started to work as an employee in Da Afghanistan Bank and served in different sections of Da Afghanistan Bank. In 1980, Sediq has worked as director general of foreign trade department and then appointed as director general of research department in 1981. In 1982, he was appointed as first deputy of Da Afghanistan Bank based on presidential decree. From 1986 to 1989, he has worked as advisor to Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank. In 1990, as per presidential decree,  Sediq was appointed as the Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank.

He immigrated to Silver Spring, Maryland, USA and holds US Citizenship. He has worked at Sun Trust Bank in the US. Currently is the  CEO of Afghanistan International Bank since November 2006. He is also the chairman of the Afghanistan Banks Association. Khalilullah Sediq was named by President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai as Afghanistan Bank governor. (20150112) Khalilullah Sediq was introduced to Wolesi Jirga as head of the Central Bank.(20150701) The lawmakers in the Lower House of Wolesi Jirga approved Khalillah Sediq’s appointment as the governor of Central Bank of Afghanistan – Da Afghanistan Bank. Sediq received 100 confidence votes and 75 votes of disapproval from 193 lawmakers present in the parliament.(20150708)
 

The Central Bank Governor of Afghanistan Khalil Sediq has stepped down from his position. A source close to ARG President Palace speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed that the Central Bank Governor’s resignation has been accepted. Sediq further added that he has stepped down due to the ailment he is suffering from. Sediq steps down from his position hours after reports emerged regarding the smuggling of up to $5 billion from Afghanistan to Iran. Reports regarding the smuggling of billions of U.S. Dollars to Iran emerge amid a steep reduction of the Afghani currency’s value against U.S. Dollars. During Sediq’s tenure, the Afghani currency depreciated as much as 43% against U.S. dollar. Sediq will depart for the U.S. for treatment where he will live with his family.(20190616)
