Samangani is a former Mujahid commander, and the principal commander in Samangani was elected to Parliament in 2005 with 24,870 votes. He served on the Natural Resources and the Environment commission during this term. He bagged most votes in the Wolesi Jirga Elections 2005 and 2010 in Samangan Province.
In May 2007 Khan had escaped an assassination attempt a few days earlier in which his driver and bodyguard were killed. Accusations were made against Gen Dostum that he and the police chief of Samangan had been behind the attack. Ahmad Khan was the Commander of the 19th Division, and was the main Commander in Samangan. He was a member of the committee on national resources and environment in 2005 Wolesi Jirga. Ahmed Khan Samangani is one of the most powerful men in Samangan province following the fall of the Taliban, and still maintains a large support base without a position within the formal government.(2011110)
Ahmad Khan Samangani the anti-Soviet guerrilla leader in the 1980s, was welcoming guests to his daughter's wedding when he was killed by an explosion (suicide bomb attack) which occurred in the Marwarid Wedding Hall, in Aybak, the capital of Samangan province.(20120714) He is the 14th Parlamentarian killed after 2004.
He is married with six sons and three daughters. He speaks Uzbek, Dari and Pashtu. |
