3. Biodata:
sahibi_mir_mayorkblEng. Mir Abdul Ahad Sahibi Sahebi was born 1946 and appointed Mayor of Kabul 20080218. He was the successor of Eng. Rohullah. An Afghan court has sentenced him to four years in prison on corruption charges. Mir Abdul Ahad Sahebi was not in court. His whereabouts are uncertain, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest. The deputy attorney general, Enayat Kamal, said the charges related to more than $16,000 (£9,800) of public money (20091207). Afghanistan’s ability to handle high-profile corruption cases was thrown deeper into doubt on Tuesday (20091208) when the mayor of Kabul returned to his desk at city hall, a day after being sentenced to four years in jail for abuse of office. Prosecutors said Abdul Ahad Sahebi had been convicted on Monday (20091207) in the highest-profile case since western powers intensified pressure on Hamid Karzai, the president, to crack down on graft after his victory last month in a flawed election. Last month, the mayor dismissed corruption accusations against him and the municipality made by Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal.

Sahebi, who was briefly detained after the verdict then released, said he was the victim of a politically-motivated campaign orchestrated by owners of luxury mansions in the up-scale Sherpur district, who opposed his plans to implement land taxes. Meanwhile Sahibi stepped down and left his office. Public Prosecution Department says a commission is to be set up to investigate corruption cases attributed to Abdul Ahad Sahebi and others. Background:
The former Mayor of Kabul, Abdul Ahad Sahibi, who is regarded by the people of Kabul as less than competent, is the fifth Mayor appointed by the current government. The third and the only Mayor who is still remembered fondly by the people of Kabul was Dr. Ghulam Sakhi Noorzad. For the short time that he was in the Kabul Mayor's office, he worked tirelessly to change the current dirty appearance of Kabul city and did his utmost best to provide municipal services for its people. However, sadly and to the surprise of the millions of people living in Kabul, the government removed Dr. Noorzad against the will of the majority of Kabul´s inhabitants.
