3. Biodata:
ramin_obaidullahObaidullah Rameen son of Muhammad Omar, was born on Meezan 7th, 1331 (1962) in Baghlan Province.  He was a student of Khost and Fereng High School for Primary and Secondary Education and graduated from Baghlan High School. He earned his Bachelors degree from Kabul University in 1355 and from 1356 to 1357 he studied in the Agriculture promoting Bank.

Hailing from a prominent Tajik family from Khost wa Fereng district associated with Sayyaf’s Ittihad-e Islami former Minister of Agriculture Obaidullah Ramin took the place of his retiring MP brother as a candidate for the elections 2010 and bagged a seat. Public Prosecution Department says a commission is to be set up to investigate corruption cases attributed to the Ex-Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Obaidullah Ramin and others. (20100315) Obaidullah Ramin in Wolesi Jirga Election 2010 ran instead of his older brother Habibullah who was an MP in the outgoing Wolesi Jirga.

The Ramins are known as Karzai loyalists - and the former minister (or we can say the family, because he himself is not the leading brother) is one of the five major shareholders of the AWCC mobile phone company, one of the most successful companies in the country. Another, younger, brother, Assadullah Ramin, used to be a fuel supplier for the US-run Bagram Airfield until arrested by the same Americans in 2008 on accusations of bribery and corruption in the Bagram contracts. Both these families’ activities could be read as a sign of the rising importance of the economic-political networks as a factor in politics for the upcoming generation and the ruling elite.
