rafi_habibullahHabibullah Rafi is a Human Rights Activist, a writer and Political Analyst. Rafi· was among the detainees, who was detained· Feb. 22, 1980 in a uprising against the Russians in Kabul and put into Pul-i-Charkhi state Prison.· a day of great importance in the history of Afghanistan. He said people from all walks of life participated in the revolt against the communists.

He is a member of the Afghan Academy of Sciences. He participated and contributed at the World Pashto Literary Convention. Rafi wrote new verses for the national anthem in Pashtu, which were approved by President Karzai, but later in March 2004 what he had only just approved was being scrapped, and that new entries were being sought. Habibullah Rafi, the author of the now-discredited anthem, said that he believes the reason Karzai rejected his poem was pressure from the mujaheddin, the commanders who were seen as heroes when they fought against the Soviet invaders, but are widely reviled for their actions in the subsequent intra-Afghan conflict.

He wrote the book: Pashtu folklore (Kabul : Historical and Literary Society of Afghanistan, 1970 (1349), 1996 and the publication Psychological and social values of Afghani Jirgas (assemblies) [Pashtu]· 201001103.
