Hamidullah Qadiri completed his B.A. in Commerce and Economics at Bombay University in India, and his Master's in Political Science at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. He is the brother of Habibullah Qadiri who had a bad record as the Minister of Counter Drugs. Hamidullah Qadri’s is suspected of involvement in some illegal activities, and his dismissal is related to incompetence as a minister of transportation, including his failure in providing facilities for Afghans’ pilgrimage trip to Mecca," a statement President Hamid Karzai’s office said. The Afghan government and the private sector have 11 million dollars because of the contracts signed by the former transportation minister Hamidullah Qadiri.

Qadiri, who was minister for less than 10 months, was dismissed 2008 by President Karzai over the transportation of Hajj pilgrims. Qadiri was dismissed for “negligence and making suspicious deals.”The contracts signed by the former minister with air companies have failed,” said acting Minister of Transportation Omar Zakhilwal. Khpolwak alleges that Qadiri was charging air companies a bribe of $100 per pilgrim. “The total amount of this bribery was some $3 million,” he added. Kabul Weekly attempts to contact Qadiri, who is not under arrest, were unsuccessful. Qadiri has been barred from leaving the country until the attorney general's investigation is completed. The Ministry lost $5 million because of contracts signed by Mr. Qadiri.” The first flights for pilgrims was scheduled to depart three weeks ago, but did not take place. The first flights left last week. Ministry of Hajji and Religious Affairs officials say that in order for the pilgrims to complete all the ceremonies they will need to stay longer in Saudi Arabia. Hamidullah Qaderi has rejected accusations of graft against him, but the attorney general's office says he caused 11 million dollar losses. (20101031)
