3. Biodata:
popal_mahmud_shahHaji Shah Mahmood Popal, son of Shir Alam, was born in 1966 in Muhammad Agha district of Logar province. He was graduated from Omar Sani High School in Peshawar of Pakistan in 1985. He served as a jihadi commander under the National Islamic Front Party until 1992. He was busy in different personal affairs during the interim administration of Hamid Karzai and served as Logar governor for a short period. He was leader of the Afghanistan National Islamic Peace Party for six years. Popal stood for election during Afghanistan's 2009 Presidential elections but withdrew his candidacy prior to the elections.

The formation of a new political party, a coalition of five political groups, village councils and tribal elders, was announced in Kabul on Dec 18, 2011. The new party called "Public Front" sought public trial of war criminals and traitors, said head of the coalition, Mahmud Popal.(20111218)
 

Shah Mahmood Popal initiated a gathering which was attended by hundreds of coalition’s members from four eastern provinces. The meeting was aimed at discussing political situation of the country. Popal claimed thousands of officials and warlords became rich overnight by violating human rights in the country.  He said the war criminals were known to everyone as they had been internationally known. Leaders of other groups in the alliance, including Wolesi Taron, Milli Party, Falah and others on the occasion said they wanted corrupt and war criminals tried in the court of law. The gathering in Nangahar was the first of its kind seeking trials for war criminals.(20120424)

Shah Mahmood Popal heads a new alliance  to work for solution to the country’s crises and create an effective government which could dealt with corrupt individuals. Fifteen political parties including the Hezb-i-Milli Islami Afghanistan, Hezb-i-Hambastagi Mardum Saadatmand Afghanistan, Hezb-i-Jamhori Khwahan Milli Afghanistan and others are part of the alliance. Popal said the alliance would take its final decision whether to create its own electoral team or support another presidential candidate in the July 20, 2019 election.(20190109)
