Farahi_Sarwar_UsmaniAlhaj Saranwal Muhammad Sarwar Usmani Farahi, son of Muhammad Usman, was
born in 1936 in Lash Javin, Farah Province. Farahi studied at the Kabul Institute ofTeacher Training from 1954-1957. He then attained his bachelor’s degree from Kabul University in 1967. Later, he studied toward his master’s degree in Law from the University of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which he was awarded in 1980.

Farahi began working in for the government while he was at university.  Farahi  immigrated to Iran and remained there from 1989 to 1992. When the Taliban came to power he left for Iran again, and stayed until 2002.

Farahi participated in the Constitutional Loya Jirga in 2003. Farahi ran unsuccessfully for parliament in 2005, gaining 1,965 votes.

He was not initially on the list of winning candidates in 2010, but replaced a candidate disqualified by Electoral Complaints Commission invesigations. He was elected Interim Speaker of the House in February 2011, because of his age.

Farahi is a member of the Coalition for the Support of the Rule of Law and the head of Resalat Parliamentary Group. The fourth parliament group in Wolesi Jirga  under the title of ‘Resalat’ (Duty) was announced on 20120310. Head of the group is Mohammad Sarvar Osmani Farahi addressed the lawmakers. The Resalat parliament group has 32 members and joined the Saba, Sada-e-Adalat, Law Support, Peace Convoy and Reformists, which had been already established.
