History and Biodata

ISAF soldiers detained Muhammad Mohammed Nader Nadir a journalist working as a camerman for the Al Jazeera Television Network in southern Kandahar province, officials said on 20100922.

3. Biodata:
Nadir, who has been working with the TV channel for several years, was living with his two children and wife in the Aino area of Kandahar City, the provincial capital. His wife told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan international forces raided their house at 3:30am and detained her spouse after blindfolding him. Al Jazeera has called on the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) to immediately release two of its cameramen arrested in Afghanistan over the last 72 hours.

The arrests follow a recent pattern of escalation by Isaf and coalition forces to target Al Jazeera journalists in Afghanistan. Recently, Al Jazeera's Afghan bureau chief Samir Allawi was threatened and pressed to change the editorial line. Al Jazeera, however, said it will continue to maintain its coverage on the basis of fair and impartial journalism in line with its Code of Ethics and will not bias its coverage in favour of any party or coalition despite pressures being imposed on it. The Coalition confirmed the release of Nadir, saying he has been detained after intelligence linked him to Taliban propaganda networks. (20100924)
