naderi_sayed_jafarSayed Jafar Naderi (aka Sayyid Nadir Shah Husayn,Sayyid-i Kayan) is an Ismaeli and was born 1965 in Kayan Valleye, Doshi District , Baghlan Province, and he is also known as Sayyid Nadir Shah Husayn or simply Sayyid-i Kaya. He is an Ismaili Afghan who formerly controlled Baghlan Province during the early 90's. The son of the Ex-governer of Baghlan province, and previous Vice-President of Afghanistan, Sayed Mansoor Naderi, Jafar went to school in England at age 10, after his father was made a political prisoner. He was sent to the United States at age 13 where he became known as Jeff Naderi. Prior to his father calling him back to Afghanistan, Sayed Jafar Nederi finish his education in New Jersey, when he got his degree from his University as a Doctor of law. He lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan Sayed Jafar Naderi in 1980's was a warlord in Baghlan province and in charge of a private army. He fled with his family when the Taliban took power and went to live in neighboring Uzbekistan but returned after the Taliban collapsed, brought in by the Northern Alliance, which provided him with security. But the Northern Alliance commanders, who stayed and fought the Taliban for five years, say they have little time for Sayed Jaffar, who sat out the war in comfort and later expected to regain his old position. ''When the Taliban came he took a helicopter and escaped and he left his people behind, and did nothing to help them,'' General Anderabi said. Northern Alliance soldiers forced Sayed Jaffar, the would-be governor of Baghlan province, to flee his home here and take to the mountains with his men.

Jaffar, the son of a family that has traditionally held the governorship in Baghlan, tried to take the city of Pul-i-Khumri by force in December 2001 but was quickly repulsed by Northern Alliance troops in charge of the town. The Northern Alliance and the government in Kabul have acted firmly against Mr. Jaffar's attempts to win power by force. They have accused the United States of assisting him and calling in airstrikes against them during his attack on Pul-i-Khumri, an accusation the United States has denied. Sayed Jafar Naderi was the subject of the 1989 documentary "King of Kayan" produced and directed by Jeff B. Harmon. Fighters opened fire on Nadiris vehicle in Baghlan Province in the Wazirabad area of the provincial capital, Pul-i-Khumri. His bodyguard was killed (20100708).
