3. Biodata Mujadidi,
mojaddedi_sibghatullah Sibghatullah Mojaddedi Mujadidi Mojadidi was born 1926. In December 2003, he served as the chairman of the Loya Jirga that approved Afghanistan's new constitution. He was elected as the leader of the legislature's 102-seat upper house, the Meshrano Jirga, for a 5 year term, and is also chairman of "National Commission for Peace in Afghanistan".

Mojaddedi, a citizen of Afghanistan from Arab descent, belongs to the Mojaddedis, known as descendants of the Mujaddid Ahmad Sirhindi. He is a well regarded Islamic scholar and one of the most prominent and prolific advocates of an independent Afghanistan since the early 1950s. He completed post-graduate study at al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, focusing on Islamic Law and Jurisprudence. In Afghanistan, he taught at Habibia High School after his graduation, and later in the Kabul University.

Mojaddedi was imprisoned from 1959 to 1964, falsely accused of involvement in a plot to assassinate Soviet Prime Minister, Nikita Khrushchev. He also participated in anti-reformist and anti-Soviet demonstrations in Kabul in 1970. Fearing repression, he chose exile after Daoud's coup in 1973. Forced to flee the country in order to escape arrest, in exile he carried out the responsibility of the Copenhagen Mosque in Denmark. In 1979 he founded the Afghan National Liberation Front, a traditional Islamic party. Although his party's military might remained marginal due to uneven weapons distribution by the Pakistani ISI, Mujaddadi remained a highly respected leader among the Mujahideen. Mojaddedi's decision to declare a general state of amnesty for all citizens regardless of political ties until the legal system of the country had been rehabilitated is one of his presidency's legacies. Mojaddedi completed his term as President in 1998 in office and returned to private life.

During Taliban rule, he settled in Pakistan. In December 2005, Professor Mojaddedi was elected to serve as the chairman of the Loya Jirga, and under his leadership the Loya Jirga was able to approve a new constitution for the country.

Prof. Sebghatullah Mujadidi has declared his resignation from all government responsibilities including the independent commission of solution of disputes and people’s relation with government. Membership of the senate and high peace council and the text of the resignation were sent to the Presidential Office.  It is said that he resigned due to difference of views between Mujadidi and President Karzai. The background of his current resignation has been President Hamid Karzai’s refusal to appoint him as High Peace Council head what he felt was an insult. So far the resignation has not been accepted. (20120401)

This is not the first time that Mujaddedi has resigned, only to return later. In 2005, when not elected in the first round as the Senate’s chairman, he stormed out of the hall decrying a ‘lack of respect’. He was persuaded to return, his rival withdrew his candidacy and Hazrat Saheb was proclaimed chairman without even a formal vote. He got his way again when he threatened to quit two years later when Herat's mayor Muhammad Rafiq Mujaddedi - a member of his clan - was arrested by then Attorney General Abdul Jabar Sabet, who led a loose-cannon anti-corruption campaign. In the parliament’s annual inauguration session in 2009, Mujaddedi threatened his resignation yet again, criticising the government’s support for corrupt officials. A return, after some gesture of apology, is again possible now.

In a meeting with Sebghatullah Mujaddedi, Chairperson of the Dispute Settlement Commission, a number of representatives of the Kuchis from Behsood district of Wardak accused a number of high-ranking government officials of being involved in the row between Kuchis and Hazaras over pasture land in the district.(20130108)
Sebghatullah Mojadedi along with the vice presidents of Hedayat Amin Arsala also endorsed Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai for the second round of the presidential election.(20140522)

The Meshrano Jirga has stopped paying salary to Sibghatullah Mujaddedi, also a former president, received 23 million afghanis as his own, four bodyguards and a driver salary over the past seven years despite not attending any session of the house.(20170524)

Spiritual leader and former president Sibghatullah Mujaddedi died on Tuesday 12. Feb  2019 at the age of 93, his family said.

Background:
Mujadidi has several times because of different reasons before declared his resignation from government responsibilities after he had felt insulted by Karzai's decisions. His resignations always were not accepted.
